Hot or Not Has a New App, and They’ve Got a Giveaway, Too!

Hot or NotDo you remember Hot or Not? I first remember hearing about it around 2000 or so, and then other things came around. Well, they never went anywhere, and the site is stronger than ever.

If you haven’t heard of the app before, here’s how it works. Once you sign in, you’re shown random people’s pictures, and you rate them based on whether you think they’re hot, or not.

You can also build up your friends list and meet and chat with new people. You can use Hot or Not on Facebook, but it’s easier on your mobile phone (iPhone or Android – not available for my Windows Phone).Hot or Not app Once you sign up and fill out a little bit of information on your own profile, you’re off and running.

Filling in information about yourself is actually important, because the app can show you other profiles based on common interests. If you’re looking to make new friends, this is a great way to make sure that you aren’t being shown profiles of folks that might be tougher for you to talk to. If you have shared interests, it’s a lot easier to start a conversation.

Since the app ties in with your Facebook account, it’s really easy to find your friends (and their friends) and get to know more people in your circles.

I hadn’t tried the app in years, myself, so it was fun to sit down with it when a friend mentioned it to me a few days ago. Honestly, it was a lot of fun to play with. If you put a lot of stock in what other people think about you, you’ll probably take this a lot more seriously than others. It’s meant to be fun, and a way to break the ice, and it is a great way to do both.

Find friends on Hot or NotRecently the folks at Hot or Not updated their mobile app, and they’re pretty excited about it. Right now you can enter to win a $1000 gift card to the store of your choice. All you need to do is register to win! It’s a super easy entry sweepstakes, and who can turn down $1000? The winner will be announced February 15, 2014, and here’s a tip. You can get extra entries for sharing about the contest with your friends, and you’ll get an additional two entries for each friend that enters the contest through your link.

Make sure you go by and like Hot or Not’s Facebook page, and you can download the app on iTunes or through Google Play.

Have you already been playing around with Hot or Not lately? If so, what did you think of the new app?

Need Help Figuring Out WordPress?

WordPress LogoI’ve been using WordPress for what feels like forever. At least 10 years now, and boy, has it changed a lot.

When I first started blogging on the WordPress platform, there was a good bit of information available, but you still had to pretty much teach yourself the nuts and bolts of it. And aside from screenshots, you pretty much just had to read and follow along.

Now, it’s a little more complicated in some respects, and a lot more people use WordPress. If you’re wanting to switch over, but you’re intimidated, there’s a set of videos that can help.

When you watch these 18 short videos, you can teach yourself how to set up your WordPress site and maintain it quite easily.

Here’s a list of the topics covered:

  • How to install your WordPress site in a matter of minutes
  • How to quickly change your WordPress Theme to make your site look customized
  • How to install Plugins to give your site added functionality
  • How to add and remove Widgets on your site
  • How to create new Posts and Pages to add content to your site
  • How to update your WordPress framework in a matter of seconds
  • How to change your site’s front page to either static content or your most recent posts
  • How to protect your site from spam and keep it safe
  • How to add a custom header image to your site
  • How to back up your site to ensure you never lose it due to hackers or update errors
  • How to add videos and images to your site to make it more interactive

Most are under 10 minutes in length, so you’re not going to spend hours watching videos and having to pause and restart. They’re short, and to the point, which is just what you need if you’re just getting started with WordPress.

WordPress for Rookies is only $27 (just $1.50 per video), and once you order you can download the package and get started immediately.
